2010 WORLD WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIPS -
MEXICO
by Andrew Michalak IFBB Press Commission
2010 World Women’s Championships are
over. 131 athletes from 39 countries came to Tlalnepantla city to
participate in the Championships. Most of them took part in the
Friday excursion to the nearby Tenayuca pyramids and climbed up 365
steps to reach the top of the biggest pyramid, called the “Pyramid
of the Sun” where they could touch the peak point to get extra
positive energy, which could be very useful during the battle on
stage. It was a great and very impressive experience.
The first part of the Championships
started Friday afternoon with Technical Meeting, followed by the
official weigh-in and height measurement. As usual, it took few
hours, as each athlete should be measured and registered to produce
the official Start List.
The battle on stage began Saturday
morning in the Tlalnepantla Convention Center and it was aimed to
select the top six finalists in each of the 9 official categories.
This part of the Championships finished at 7 pm and then the list of
the finalists was published.
The final part of the Championships
start Sunday morning, at 11:00 am and was followed
by the Gala Dinner. In most
categories, except bodyfitness, the finalists started the final
battle for medals and titles with “zero-point” status. Two gold
medals went to South American athletes: Diana Monteiro (Brazil) and
Nora Martinez (Paraguai). The rest went to the European athletes:
Tatiana Dvortsova, Natalia Mikhailova and Konstantin Nekrasov (all
from Russia), Jana Purdjakova (Slovakia), Jana Stockelova (Czech
Republic), Anna Szczotka (Poland) and Nina Furseth (Norway).
Russia won the best team’s
classification, ahead of Brazil and Poland. More details soon.
